Successful Multimodal Cross-Border Transport of Oversized Equipment for the $720M Theun-Hinboun Hydropower Project from Europe to Laos via Viet Nam
Go Back
Vantage Logistics handled the domestic and cross-border transportation between Viet Nam and Laos for the Theun Hinboun Hydropower Plant project in Na Hin, Laos, with a total value of up to USD 720 million.
From July 2025 to November 2025, machinery and spare parts were shipped from multiple European ports (Gdansk, Gothenburg, Rijeka, Genoa) to Hai Phong Port, Viet Nam, and then delivered to the project site in Laos under DAP terms.

Project Highlights:
Survey of cargo, transport route and site conditions
Before execution, Vantage Logistics conducted surveys across three key elements: cargo, transport route and jobsite.
Transport coordination from port to jobsite
Upon cargo arrival at Hai Phong Port under CFR terms, Vantage Logistics took over and coordinated the entire transport leg to the jobsite in Na Hin, Laos, with a focus on maintaining alignment between cargo flow and construction progress.
Transport planning aligned with cost and construction schedule
Instead of applying a fixed solution, Vantage Logistics proposed multiple transport options for client consideration:
Customs and cross-border transport support
Throughout execution, Vantage Logistics provided continuous support on documentation and procedures:
The Theun Hinboun Hydropower project demonstrates Vantage Logistics’ capability in executing transport from seaport to inland jobsite, combining site surveys, operational coordination and cross-border procedural support.
A data-driven approach, planning aligned with construction progress and close coordination with the client ensured a stable cargo flow from Hai Phong, Viet Nam to Na Hin, Laos throughout the execution period, meeting project schedule requirements.
Companies requiring project cargo transport to Laos and the Mekong region can contact Vantage Logistics for tailored solutions aligned with their specific project plans.

Survey of cargo, transport route and site conditions
Before execution, Vantage Logistics conducted surveys across three key elements: cargo, transport route and jobsite.
- Assess cargo characteristics to determine appropriate handling and transport requirements.
- Review the transport route from Hai Phong to Na Hin to ensure feasibility in terms of load capacity, infrastructure and operational arrangement.
- Check jobsite conditions to align the delivery plan with actual receiving capability and site layout.

- Plan deliveries by shipment batch based on the site receiving schedule to avoid early arrivals before site readiness or congestion at the unloading area.
- Organise transport resources by phase to maintain a continuous flow from Hai Phong Port through the border to the jobsite without creating intermediate bottlenecks.
- Coordinate directly with the client to adjust delivery schedules when construction timelines change, ensuring alignment between transport activities and actual site demand.

Transport planning aligned with cost and construction schedule
Instead of applying a fixed solution, Vantage Logistics proposed multiple transport options for client consideration:
- Options were developed based on the actual requirements of each shipment and each construction phase.
- The client could select between options balancing transport cost, delivery time and planning flexibility.

Customs and cross-border transport support
Throughout execution, Vantage Logistics provided continuous support on documentation and procedures:
- Advise on customs procedures at Hai Phong Port and requirements related to Viet Nam–Laos cross-border transport.
- Support the handling of necessary procedures to ensure cargo clearance in line with the planned transport schedule.
- Provide timely updates so the client can prepare documentation proactively, reducing risks of delays due to missing or incorrect paperwork.
