Cross-Border Viet Nam – Cambodia: Successfully Moving a 38-Metre Overlength Cargo Through Infrastructure Constraints to an Industrial Zone
Vantage Logistics has successfully completed one of its most demanding transport operations: delivering an overlength cargo measuring up to 38 metres – (equivalent to the length of two articulated buses) – from Ho Chi Minh Port, Viet Nam to Xin Bavet SEZ industrial zone, Cambodia.

The Zodo Tire Cambodia Factory Project involves not only machinery, steel structures and fuel systems, but also a massive unit weighing 47 tons, far beyond standard road transport limits. With such dimensions, the cargo could not pass through typical intersections, could not navigate tight corners, and required the removal of fixed obstacles such as overhead power lines and traffic signage.

Project Highlights:
  • Project name: Zodo Tire Cambodia Factory
  • Commodity: Machinery, steel structures, fuel delivery system, oil ignition system
  • Volume: 128 PKGS / 1487 CBM / 527 TONS
    • Including the longest unit: 38mL x 3.9mW x 3.9mH x 47 TONS
  • Port of Loading (POL): Hồ Chí Minh, Việt Nam
  • Delivery Address: Xin Bavet SEZ, Cambodia
  • Time of Shipment: 12/2025
  • Scope of Work: In-transit customs clearance in Viet Nam, import customs clearance in Cambodia, and road transport from Ho Chi Minh Port to the jobsite.

Technical Solutions for Oversized and Overweight Cargo

To handle the challenges associated with transporting this overlength cargo, Vantage Logistics implemented a set of coordinated solutions, combining engineering execution with regulatory procedures to ensure both safety and schedule compliance.
  • Specialised equipment: Deployment of extendable trailers designed for extreme lengths, allowing precise load distribution and maintaining stability throughout movement across varied road conditions.
  • Green-lane customs clearance: Alignment of customs data at both sides of the border, enabling a continuous movement from port to jobsite, reducing storage costs and minimising risks associated with repeated handling.
  • Route survey and on-site intervention: Proactive identification and removal of static obstacles (power lines, traffic signs, road medians) along the entire route prior to transport execution.

The “Last-Mile Delivery” Challenge at Xin Bavet SEZ

The final stretch into Xin Bavet Special Economic Zone (Svay Rieng, Cambodia) presented the most critical challenge. The area is characterised by restricted operating space, sharp turns and tight intersections. For a cargo measuring 38 metres in length, even a deviation of a few centimetres during manoeuvring, or a minor miscalculation in dimensions, could bring the entire movement to a standstill.

This is the most sensitive phase of the operation, where every parameter – length, width and height clearance – must be controlled with precision. Otherwise, the cargo risks clashing with gates, bridges, or fixed infrastructure such as power lines and traffic signage. Even a minor discrepancy can disrupt the entire transport process.

Optimising Logistics Solutions for the Project Owner
  • Ensuring installation schedule: Equipment delivered in line with plan, supporting timely plant commissioning.
  • Optimising total cost: Avoiding additional costs arising from border delays or technical miscalculations.
  • Professional coordination capability: Managing complex logistics requirements end-to-end, from route survey through to final delivery.
